Meet the Pets: Halloween Edition

Hello, October, and welcome, Spooky Season! Bust out the dark and creepy décor, pull up Hocus Pocus on the TV, and don’t forget to stock your pantry with candy! For the first installment of my Spooktacular Series this month, I thought it was time to finally introduce my three babies (fur babies, that is) to you.

Up first, the oldest one of the bunch: Lottie!

Lottie is my black and white mini Rex rabbit. I got him for Christmas when I was in third grade. He’ll be 11 years old this month. He loves cuddles and will give you kisses (and nips!) if you let him. While I’m away at college, my mom does a superb job of taking care of him. She makes sure his cage is clean, and he’s fed every day. Every morning, she gives him a tiny organic carrot to snack on along with his regular food. His alter ego name is Horatio, since both my mom and I swear he looks like Horatio Caine from CSI: Miami

I love giving my pets nicknames, and some of Lottie’s nicknames are Bunny Boy and Little Man.

For Halloween last year, my mom surprised me by sending photos of my pets in costumes! Lottie was dressed like a magician, with a little top hat, bowtie, and wand. Isn’t he adorable?! He’s so cute, I think I would let him put a spell on me!

Next, we have my sweet little Cici.

Also black and white, Cici is such a sweetheart. More affectionate than her sister, she loves to snuggle and be with people. If you are napping, there’s a chance she will come lay next to you or on you. She’s also very playful, her favorite toys being the small toy mice that are scattered around the house. (Her two favorites are Blouse [Blue Mouse] and Grouse [Grey Mouse]!)

As far as nicknames go, there are a lot… Pretty, Pretty Princess (yes, you must say “pretty” twice), Miss Alberta Einstein, Miss Eyebrows. Since her sister has a middle name, my mom and I wanted to give Cici one too, so she would know when she was in trouble (haha). Her full name is Cici Marie Besecker. Doesn’t that sound so precious?

For Halloween last year, my mom dressed Cici up as a princess! What brave and noble knight wouldn’t want to rescue this sweet princess?!

Last, but certainly not least, we have Bean. Cocoa Bean, to be exact.

A black beauty with a small patch of white on her chest, Bean is my sassy baby. (She gets it from her mom… oops!) While Cici is more playful, Bean is more regal; but there are times where Bean will revert back to kittenhood (as I put it). Her favorite toy is a three tier tower with spinning balls inside. She will sit by it and paw at the balls all day long.

Now Bean… Bean has, by far, the most nicknames: Beanie Baby, Beanie Weenie, JellyBean, Mz. Bean, StringBean, Queen Bean. I’m sure down the road she will earn more. It’s just so easy to give her nicknames.

Since one of her nicknames is Beanie Baby, my mom turned my Bean into a live Beanie Baby for Halloween last year! I don’t know about you, but I would definitely want to bring this baby home!

Having grown up in a household where we’ve had pets most of my life, I value my babies so much. It’s hard being away from them while I’m at college, so when I am home, the time spent with them is so much sweeter. If you have any pets of your own, give them a hug or a kiss on the forehead. And, if your pet allows it, dress them up for Halloween! If you do, email me pictures of your adorable fur baby!

Stay spooky!
