“why don’t you write us some happy poems?”

"Why don't you write us some happy poems?

That would be awesome,

All of your poetry's moody and dark, Lex."

(Laughs)

Don't get me started

You want to know what it's like if you met me in person?

Just read my own verses

And you’ll know the confusion

And questioning

And dare I say pain?

But people don't like to see the pain

The depression, the anxiety

The breaking down of one's mind as they spiral and hit rock bottom

Happiness, though?

People love to see that shit—

The smiles and laughs

But half the time that's fake, too

We're all just happy faces with sad eyes

Paranoid of what's around the corner—

Who's around the corner—

As if the bogeyman is gonna jump out at us

Why don't I write happy poems?

Because I don't think I could ever let my heart express the pain that's buried itself deep within me

A blank page though?

I slaughter that with ink.
