Little Fires

Blue-black skies with twinkling stars

Prickly grass against my back

A warm hand holding mine

As fireflies dance above our heads

They are like tiny stars

Personified, just small enough for us

To reach up and touch

Or maybe they’re more like little fires

And what a speck of light is to us

Is a blazing bonfire to them

It reminds me of the impossibilities

Of life and of us

And somehow that makes me feel
