2020: The Year of the Eyeshadow
It’s 2020. Thanks to COVID-19, lipstick is out, and eyeshadow is in. Why? Because of face masks. (Love thy neighbor!)
Now, as someone who loves wearing lipstick, I am very much okay with experimenting in the eyeshadow department. As many of my friends and family know, I love to wear black from head to toe. Wearing eyeshadow allows for a pop of color to brighten things up, especially while wearing a black face mask. (And can I just say that I feel totally badass when I’m wearing all black with my black face mask and my eyeliner is as sharp as a knife.)
I was nervous getting into eyeshadow at first, since I would watch beauty gurus on YouTube perfectly blend their eyeshadow and have beautiful color schemes. But I soon realized that I wasn’t going to be perfect starting out, and a large part of the journey is just having fun. Makeup is an expression of oneself. I don’t wear makeup to make myself feel prettier. I do it because it’s fun, and I get to express myself in a way I normally can’t.
When I decided to get more into makeup, I asked for some colorful makeup palettes for Christmas. Lo and behold, my mom bought me three Profusion Cosmetics palettes: Wanderlust, Mattes, and Metallics.
They are so beautiful and bold.
Inexpensive and full of beautiful colors, I highly recommend Profusion Cosmetics to anyone who wants to explore the fun world of eyeshadow. Don’t be afraid of bright colors or if your eyeshadow isn’t blended together perfectly. Perfection (in anything) will always get in the way.
To top off my gorgeous eyeshadow look, I’ll apply mascara, and more times than not, I’ll line my eyes with black eyeliner, either liquid or pencil. (Liquid eyeliner smells fear, trust me.)
Here are some of the looks I created during my two week quarantine:
Not only was I able to experiment with the palettes my mom gifted me for Christmas, but I also was able to use a new palette my friends gave me for my birthday back in February: the Cosmic Reflect palette from Pacifica Beauty.
A special shout-out to Bekah P., Leah G., and Grace S., who blindly picked out my eyeshadow combinations! (A firm rule I have now is to swatch the colors together before putting them on my face!)
Go forth and be creative!
