Is There an Arabic Alphabet Song?

Tuesday, November 17

Today’s class was different because the TA who has been observing taught for the entire 90-minute class time. He really isn’t a TA, though; he is studying to become an Arabic teacher so that is why he has been sitting in during class. The class required a lot of participation, and we learned three new letters—the last three letters of the Arabic alphabet! The remaining letters are م [miim], ن [nuun], and ه [haa]. The weirdest part about the class, though, was that he taught mostly in Arabic. Since I’m in Arabic 1, we are definitely not ready for that kind of level of instruction. But we were able to figure out what he meant for most of the time. It was an interesting experience and made me think of what it would be like if I studied abroad, since it would be a full immersion experience.

Thursday, November 19

Our last Thursday class was more relaxed but we did get things done. We went over the new letters again and did several drills from the textbook, which I did fairly well on. We also went over the difference between ح [Haa] and ه [haa] because they sound exactly the same. My professor also showed us some Arabic music. I am slowly but surely making my way through several bookmarked playlists on my Spotify so I can add songs to my own playlist.

Also, I have been faithful in completing my daily Duolingo lesson for fifteen days now. I plan on keeping the streak going over winter break so I don’t lose everything I gained during my first semester of Arabic.

Since I now know the entire Arabic alphabet, I thought it would be fun to Google to see if there is an Arabic alphabet song. I found several videos, but I was looking for something similar to the alphabet song we have for Latin letters. Here’s the best one I could find. It’s cheesy and simple and kind of cute, if you ask me.

This is my second-to-last #ArabicWithAlex post for the semester. Next week I will be on a small hiatus, but check back Friday, December 4th for my semester wrap-up. Also, please pray for me on December 3rd, because that’s when I am taking my final exam for this class.
